"We Closed our Books and Put Them Away" Learning Stories from Mozambique: A Critical Reflection on Learning and Development Under the above title, Muriel Visser, Florida State University, and Jan Visser, Learning Development Institute, presented the results of an in-depth study into the reality and challenges of learning in a rural community in Mozambique from the perspective of the women and men themselves. The paper was presented and discussed at the annual International Conference of the (AECT) held in Anaheim, CA, October 22-25, 2003. The learning stories of the individuals and communities in question highlight the important role that learning plays in their lives as well as the frustrations faced by their authors in their quest for learning. Implications for development interventions and educational policy were discussed.
